The Firm Ground Project

We have decided to jump on the blogging bandwagon and allow our friends and family the details of new events in our lives. Aren't you lucky?!

The most recent of which is an idea that came about mostly by accident. Our friends Cason and Colleen are living in Kenya for a year. Cason recently wrote about an opportunity he had to join a local soccer team. Unfortunately all the players are barefoot. He wrote asking for used cleats to give his teammates. Kyle immediately jumped on the opportunity, having multiple pairs of used cleats himself. However, he also had a random thought to ask the players of Hamilton South Eastern High School, the high school he coaches for, if they had any used cleats to donate as well. The turnout was overwhelming as you can see from the picture below. We have approx. 50 pairs of cleats sitting in our living room waiting to be sent to Kenya.

The turnout spurned an idea we tentatively are calling, 'The Firm Ground Project.' The basic idea is to start a nonprofit that mobilizes cleats all over the world, using the game of soccer as a witnessing tool. The name has a double meaning: 'firm ground' is the most common type of soccer cleat, and of course firm ground has a multitude of Christian connotations.

HSE is just one high school in northern Indianapolis and the possibility that multiple schools could be involved could produce hundreds, even thousands of cleats. The ideas are endless and we are praying about what and how God could use this. We will keep you updated as we continue looking for opportunities of where to send the cleats and who could help continue our vision. We are excited about our new endeavor!
